ALL INDIA WORKING COMMITTE MEETTING

28 June 2010

The following resolution was adopted on Wage Board Progress:

This meeting of the Central Working Committee of the All India Newspaper Employees Federation (AINEF) held at Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh, notes with satisfaction that the Government of India has extended the tenure of the Wage Boards till 31 December 2010.
Most of the work of the Wage Boards is said to have already been completed and the Government’s earlier moves to appoint a tribunal in place of the wage boards were opposed by newspaper employees all over the country. It was in fact as a result of this opposition and agitation by the workers that the PMO had to intervene in the matter and an understanding was reached agreeable to all concerned.
The AINEF hopes that the wage boards would expedite the work and finish the remaining work in stipulated time frame. The AINEF assures its fullest cooperation to the wage boards and the Government of India in this.

M.L. Talwar,

General Secretary.
AINEF

  1. I am an employee at Bangalore , Karnataka , working for a Newspaper which is part of BNEU Union. I am distressed to hear the indifference of the Judges of the Supreme Court who failed to issue a Direction, in case Mr Nariman fails to com up with a Interim Relief figure for submission to the Hon'ble Court as directed in the previous sitting of the Court. If the Supreme Court cannot dispose the case with a verdict , it should atleast refer it back to Parliament , which approved the same. The Court preaches Justice to everyone , but in this case it is dithering on the matter due to unseen manipulations by unseen agents of the Newspaper Barons for a long time , keeping the Employees in suspense. Besides the Representatives of the Industry are working Overtime to deny the rightful share of the employees wages by creating false and bogus statements of salaries of employees and furnishing the same to the Court as Genuine figures. As the Rep of Employees, based in Delhi , I hereby request you to exert pressure on the Federation's Lawyers to overturn the manipulations being done by Mr R.S.Kadabadi , who incidentally represents Deccan Herald & Prajavani Newspaper. He being on a contract basis and with a first extension for a year that was renewed three months ago , is in full zoom to impress hiis employer Mr K.N.Tilak Kumar , who is anti-employee , unlike his brother Mr K.N.Harikumar who had a great deal of respect for the employees.
    Thanks & Regards.

  3. It is distressing to note that the Management of The Printers Mysore Pvt Ltd , publishers of Deccan Herald & Prajavani newspapers have deliberately downgraded the designations of senior employees who were in the F10, F20 and F30 grade to F05, which is the grade for machine cleaners. Besides this even the salaries of senior employees have been slashed by Rs 13000 from their Basic pay. Not content with this , the Organisation's Director Mr Shanthakumar, has told some of the employees who have been victims of the Management's manipulation of the Wage Board pay scales , that their Grade and loss of Pay that was cut , will be returned to them and a get a couple of thousands of rupees will be added to their pay , provided they give an undertaking to sacrifice their retirement benefits as put forth by the Management. But the Wage Board scales will not be given on any account. Also the employees were told to impress upon the Union Leaders for going in for a compromise formula w.r.t the wage board pay scales.
The employees of Deccan Herald & Prajavani had high regards for Mr Shanthakumar earlier. But after his blackmailing tactics with the employees only showed that both the Brothers, Mr Tilak Kumar & Mr Shanthakumar are of the same anti employee mentality. They pay Rs 2.5. Lakhs to the General Manager- Production as salary and have resources to start branches of the Company in different places of Karnataka and buy expensive machinery which costs crores of rupees. But they have no money to pay for the employees which the Supreme Court upheld not once but twice.
Is there any authority who can teach such greedy people a lesson ?
